Everything is just going grand! So many miracles and spiritual experiences this week! With the multi-zone conference with Pte Smith and his wife, the division of the stakes this weekend with Elder Amado and Elder Arredondo, wonderful studies (the talk ¨Being accepted of the Lord¨ and DyC 97:8 changed my life) and lots and lots of working and finding. We finally contacted Ana-ref-Aracely and she came to church on Sunday!
Élida is so pilas. This weekend they created a third stake in Huehue! The conference was incredible. But it was in a different building that Elida wasn´t familiar with so we organized an sister to go pick her up in car. But that sister isn´t very reliable. She called us – late – Sunday and said it was late and she was just going to go straight to the conference without Elida (what?) so we called Elida and asked where she was and she said she was worried this sister wouldn´t be able to take her so she had just left alone with her daughter to go to the conference and she was already there – 20 minutes early. How she arrived without ever having gone to the building, I have no idea. God´s help.
This morning there was an earthshake! At 5:30am. Two seconds afterward, Luís called and said that he was dreaming he was on the playa and on a hammock and the hammock was swinging back and forth, back and forth…and then he woke up and it wasn´t the hammock–it was the temblor. We called a few hermanas this morning and one of them (Buskita) told us that at 5:35am there was a lady out in the street outside her house shouting ¨Arrepiéntanse!!¨ and niños crying. While they were doing that, I just decided to stay up and watch the sunrise. And because of God´s love and mercy, I ended up having one of the most comforting, affirming spiritual communions with God of my life.
¨If, for a while, the harder you try the harder it gets, take heart. So it has been with the best people who have ever lived.¨ – Elder Holland, ¨The Inconvenient Messiah¨
I love you all and I love my Heavenly Father and His perfect, merciful plan. I know that God forgives sins and strengthens weaknesses and that he does it over and over and over again.
p.s. The funniest thing I´ve ever written in my study journal: ¨As frustrating as my own imperfection and sins may be…at least I´m not as bad off as Ammoron.¨
Yesterday we met the new Presidente Smith and his lovely wife and they just seem like stellar people. Of course we miss Pte and Hna Bautista, but we know that Pte Smith has been called of God and they are just what this mission needs now. They seriously seem like the most kind and humble people; we`re very excited to work with them.
My chafa mercado-bought watch stopped this morning so every little while Richards and I have this conversation: ¨What time is it?¨ ¨7:17…still¨ or ¨Man, it`s already 7:17, we have to get going!¨
Yesterday for the first time we had the we´re-dropping-you talk with an investigator. María is a lovely lovely girl but she doesn´t want to change so we made sure she knows we love her a ton and that if she starts reading the Book of Mormon or wants to visit church, to call us. We left that lesson and walked in silence for a little bit, then said, ¨Well that was chafa.¨ Heartbreaking.
BUT todo por algo, va? Like 2 months ago we found Nancy and Oscar, taught them a couple times then unofficially dropped them because they didn`t seem that interested, and we started visiting their neighbor, who was María! We said that maybe we had found Nancy and Oscar in order to find María. But then a few days ago we randomly had another lesson with Nancy and Oscar and María and the RS Pres, Magdalena. In that lesson Nancy and Oscar expressed interest in learning more and coming to church. So now we´re wondering if we found María in order to refind Nancy and Oscar! We´ll see. We´re hoping this is the family we´ve been looking for.
But if they´re not, we keep looking. Always. Please pray that we can find this family we hope God is preparing for us. Trust in God´s promises. He is both merciful and just. (Alma 50:19-20)
I love you all and I love God. This week, let´s try to ¨remember Him always¨ a little more. (Alma 46:8, 12)
p.s. I`m not inicua. I`m writing on Tuesday with permission because yesterday we had to go down to Xela for a ¨cocktail party¨. (Still not inicua! The cocktail party was with Pte Smith and some other missionaries.)
I love the mission!! Can I just tell you?? We had so many wonderful and funny experiences this week. Like we visited Cony and there were 17 thousand niños there who all clapped very exuberantly after we sang ¨Más cerca Dios de ti.¨ You´d think we were MoTab. 🙂
We had a beautiful last multi-zone conference with Pte Bautista and Hna Bautista. It´s so sad they´re making like a tree and leafing. 😦
Update on recent converts: Élida prays to Padre Celestial now instead of to Señor! She just learned that solita! And Luís is now 2nd counselor in the Young Men´s presidency and probably soon will be called as a ward missionary. He´s doing a great job hermanaring all our investigators. I love seeing people progress and change their lives!!
– Alma 36 is all about remembering and forgetting.
– Alma 37 – Professional counterfeit-money-recognizers (that´s a real thing) don´t study the counterfeit bills; they study the real bills.
We saw a lot of small miracles. María and Paola came to the Father´s Day activity. We finally contacted Ana the reference of tortillería Aracely, just randomly passing by and felt like we should go talk to Aracely and cabal allí estaba Ana.
I love the Gospel. I know that God has a perfect plan and He fulfills His promises. When we align our will with His we come to recognize His hand in all things.
I love you all. Have a fantastic week!
